Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have pledged their support to victims of the massive earthquake that struck the island of Haiti on Tuesday.

In a statement, the couple said, “We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.” Jolie, 34, has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations since 2001.

On Tuesday, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake plus several strong aftershocks ravaged the poverty-stricken nation, and “thousands” are feared dead, Haitian President Rene Preval said. Musician Wyclef Jean–born in Haiti himself–kicked off the call for relief efforts in a statement Tuesday evening.
“I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse,” Jean told ET. “The over 2 million people in [capital] Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.”

Jean offers two ways to get involved: Donate $5 to his Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund by texting “Yele” to 501501 (the $5 will be charged to your cell phone bill) or visit www.Yele.org and click “donate.”
